Seasonal Position for Experienced Cook

Opportunity to showcase your culinary skills and the “Taste of Karumba” to visitors to the Gulf of Carpentaria!

Seasonal role: March – October, 2024

 

This is an exciting opportunity for an outgoing and self-motivated person to join our vibrant Les Wilson Barramundi Discover Centre team. If you enjoy creating beautiful food and delivering engaging menus that bring people together and promote our wonderful region, then we want to hear from you.

 

As the Seasonal Cook, you will work with the centre coordinator create and deliver the centre’s menu and visitor experience.

 

About the role........

During the visitor season, we operate 7 days a week, for coffee, cakes, lunches and tapas style snacks.  Our menu focus is to promote local businesses and fresh foods - Barramundi, King Salmon, Prawns, beef, lamb, crocodile, chicken.

 

Our menu is varied. Creativity, your input and showcasing our local produce will be the key to your success in this role.

Your duties and responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Developing relationships with local industry to develop menu ideas
  • Ability to follow recipe and gather all necessary ingredients
  • Kitchen equipment preparation and clean up
  • Preparation and assembly of food
  • Cook food in a timely manner
  • Ensure appealing presentation
  • Coffee and barista knowledge
  • Assist with monitoring food stock and place orders
  • Check freshness of food and discard out-of-date items as directed
  • Assist in experimenting with recipe development.

About you..........

  • A knowledge of, or an ability to quickly grasp, an understanding of tourism and information requirements for Carpentaria Shire.
  • Experience in a professional kitchen is required with references.
  • Experience on grill and cooking seafoods and meats is desired.
  • Compliance with all food health and safety regulations within the kitchen area, in accordance with QLD Food Act 2006 as well as Occupational Health and Safety Practices is essential.
  • Australian Driver’s Licence.
