About the Opportunity

Carpentaria Shire Council has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Carpenter to join their dedicated team in Normanton, QLD.

In this varied role, you'll be primarily responsible for undertaking maintenance and minor building projects on Council buildings and infrastructure. You will also be responsible for undertaking building assessments and making recommendations towards programmed works.

Some of your key duties will include (but may not be limited to):

  • Providing technical advice for building tenders and quotations;
  • Liaising with Council's Plumbers and Electrician and external contractors to undertake work as necessary;
  • Be the main point of contact for building contractors and consultants;
  • Handling enquiries from tenants of staff and pensioner housing;
  • Carry out a range of maintenance activities that may include preparation and painting, concreting, tiling, fencing and vermin control; and
  • Performing other duties and tasks deemed within accountability, skill and qualification levels.

The successful applicant will have a Certificate III in Carpentry, high level skills in being able to prioritise activities and coordinate materials, have good knowledge of quality assurance principles and processes, have a current Construction Industry White Card and Working at Heights Certification and have sound computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office Suite.

You'll have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively and build rapport with a wide range of stakeholders in a variety of environments.

Importantly, you'll demonstrate skills in time management, multi-tasking, prioritising and problem solving, with a willingness to learn and develop your skills.

Please Note: A Manual Drivers' License is an essential requirement of this role. You will be required to travel to the Council’s remote work sites on occasion.

About the Benefits

In return for your hard work, you will be rewarded with an excellent salary circa $88,000 PLUS a locality allowance of $3200 minimum.
